Set in the yard of the old village school which was built in 1913., the school was closed in the 1960’s and left deteriorating for many years. The local Boys’ and Girls’ Club which was established in 1958 took on a lease from Mid Glamorgan Council and undertook a complete refurbishment. Max Boyce officially opened the facility in 1984. With the need to secure a sustainable income and a new 99 year lease from Bridgend County Borough Council the club renamed as Youth of Bettws and set out in 2008, to create a bunkhouse accommodation facility. This was completed with thanks to funding received from the Big Lottery, Welsh Government and the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action.
